(670 The Score) White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks after undergoing an appendectomy Saturday evening, the team said.
Overnight Friday into Saturday, Jimenez complained of abdominal pain, and he was diagnosed with acute appendicitis after being taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Jimenez is expected to be discharged from Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati later Saturday night.
Jimenez’s absence will be a big blow to the White Sox, who dropped to 11-23 with a 5-3 loss to the Reds on Saturday evening. Jimenez is hitting .258 with four homers, 15 RBIs and a .743 OPS in 25 games this season. He had been hot lately, riding an eight-game hitting streak with two homers and eight RBIs in that span.
