(670 The Score) The White Sox requested unconditional release waivers on veteran utilityman Leury Garcia on Thursday as they made a series of moves to finalize their 26-man roster for Opening Day.
The White Sox are parting ways with the 32-year-old Garcia as he has two years and $11 million left on his contract. He struggled mightily in 2022, hitting .210 with a .500 OPS in 97 games.
In other moves Thursday, Chicago selected the contracts of infielder Hanser Alberto and outfielder Oscar Colas and optioned lefty reliever Tanner Banks and infielder Jake Burger to Triple-A Charlotte. The White Sox also placed closer Liam Hendriks (cancer treatment), left-hander Garrett Crochet (recovery from left elbow surgery) and right-hander Matt Foster (right flexor strain) on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Monday.
