(670 The Score) As the White Sox have managed injuries and struggles during the early part of the season, they’ve turned to many different players with the hope of finding success.

Jake Burger is an example of a player the White Sox have trusted who has rewarded their faith. The 26-year-old Burger has provided the game-winning hit in the White Sox’s last four wins. A third baseman by trade, Burger may also be able to land more playing time by working at second base.

Burger told the Mully & Haugh Show on Tuesday morning that he feels “comfortable” playing second base. He has played three innings there this season and also did offseason work at the position. He has started 26 times at third base in 2022.

“Like I always say, wherever they need me, I’ll play,” Burger said. “I’m just happy to compete and help the team in any way I can.”

The White Sox have struggled to solidify the second base position. Veteran Josh Harrison is hitting .181, while Leury Garcia is hitting .189.

The White Sox selected Burger with the No. 11 overall pick in the first round of the 2017 MLB amateur draft. He dealt with a series of injuries during the course of his minor league journey before making his MLB debut last season.

Burger is hitting .245 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 31 games this season. For Burger, just being in the big leagues is enough to appreciate after overcoming a difficult road to get to this point.

“The number one thing is just playing in front of packed stadiums,” Burger said. “Especially here in Chicago, it’s just so cool. Sometimes I’m playing third base or in an at-bat and I got to take a step back, like, ‘Holy cow. This is it.’ Like, this is so cool.

“That’s probably the best part.”

The White Sox open a three-game series against the Dodgers on Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
