As Oswego East High School product, Schultz signed with the White Sox for $2.8 million. That was for a little more than the recommended slot value of just shy of $2.79 million. Schultz had previously committed to play at Vanderbilt before signing with the White Sox.

The 6-foot-9 Schultz didn’t pitch much in his senior year of high school due to illness and inclement weather. He recently posted a 0.93 ERA in six appearances for Illinois Valley in the Prospect League, where he struck out 37 batters in 19 1/3 innings.
