(670 The Score) As the White Sox work to identify their candidates for their managerial opening, former player and current Cubs third-base coach Willie Harris hasn't yet been formally considered.
Harris hasn't yet heard from the White Sox regarding the open position, he told Matt Spiegel and Mark Grote on 670 The Score on Monday afternoon.
“I’m surprised too, but it’s not my call,” Harris said. “I'm not going to sit back and worry why they haven’t reached out. Obviously, they have some plans on what they want to do over there, and if I’m not in those plans, I can accept that. I’m cool with that. You keep it moving and you keep working to get better.”
The 44-year-old Harris played a dozen seasons in the big leagues, including four with the White Sox from 2002-’05.
Harris was interviewed by the White Sox for their managerial position in October 2020 before the team hired Tony La Russa out of retirement.
La Russa, who's now 78, announced he wouldn't return as White Sox manager due to ongoing health issues. After he interviewed with the White Sox two years ago, Harris hopes for another opportunity.
“I’m a completely different guy now as far as my baseball mind in 2022 than I was in 2020,” Harris said. “I’ve learned a ton in two years from (Cubs manager David Ross) and (bench coach Andy Green) and just being around the game, the players. I’m a different guy now than I was then.”
