MIAMI (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has talked to union leader Tony Clark about the importance of players following the league's coronavirus protocols.

A person familiar with the conversation told The Associated Press that Manfred and Clark also discussed what needs to be done to finish the season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

The conversation between Manfred and Clark, which was first reported by ESPN, comes amid growing concern about baseball's ability to keep playing in the middle of a pandemic.

This weekend is seen as a crucial juncture for the sport, both in terms of hoping for a limit of positive tests and in players abiding by protocols. Local health officials have been troubled by the lack of mask wearing, high-fiving and spitting by players, according to sources.
