Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Two Buffalo lawmakers are hoping the recent publicity and action surrounding the Buffalo Skyway competition could lead to a similar plan for the future of the Scajaquada Expressway.
Two Buffalo Common Council members, both of whose districts surround the highway, have filed a resolution asking Governor Cuomo to implement a nationwide design competition for the 33 and 198 Expressways.
"You have the same or more people travel on the 198 and 33 each day," said Feroleto. "It deserves the same amount of attention."
Feroleto said a lot of unique ideas came in on the Skyway project. "It brought ideas from people who have expertise and are not from the area; a different perspective."
Councilmen Joe Golombek and Joel Feroleto have also requested the speed limit on the Scajaquada Expressway be raised to an appropriate speed until construction takes place and a new design is implemented.
"We want the speed limit to be raised to 40 mph, while potential changes are made," he said. "If you're driving down the 198 right now, it just doesn't feel right. It's not designed to be 30 mph. We think raising it to a more appropriate speed of 40 mph would be better."
