BUFFALO (WBEN) - Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo is warning residents about unauthorized ATV use.

"We've noticed large groups of people riding ATV's on city streets, city parks and near city playgrounds, and we want to remind people that it's an illegal activity," said Rinaldo. "You cannot drive an ATV on a city street; you cannot an ATV into a city park."

He reiterated that ATV use is only permissible on private land or state-approved roadways and tracks. Last week, Rinaldo said police had an incident of several riders on a city street that were weaving in and out of traffic and then entered into Delaware Park, and it created a dangerous situation.

"It has become an issue, and it's one that we're going to take serious because the last thing I want to do is have to stand in front of you guys and report on a child who was struck and killed because someone was riding an ATV who shouldn't have been," he said.
