BUFFALO (WBEN) - It's becoming a fairly common occurrence, but Buffalo once again was ranked high by the online travel publication Thrillist which says the city is the 24th best weekend travel destination in the country.

Here's an excerpt from their write-up:

Neighborhoods to check out: Start with Elmwood Village. Make Hotel Henry your home base, a repurposed mental hospital that's now the city's coolest boutique hotel. It's a short walk to a concentration of restaurants and bars along Elmwood Avenue, and nearby to the Albright-Knox Gallery, one of the best modern art museums in the country. You can also take a walk across Delaware Park, home to beautiful gardens and The Buffalo Zoo, to get to Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House Complex, six interconnected buildings that represent some of Wright's finest work.

For a night out hit up Allentown, where a combination of young energy and a welcoming Buffalo vibe make it one of the best barhopping neighborhoods in the country. Finish the night at the always-good-for-a-bad-decision Old Pink, where you're almost guaranteed to make plenty of new friends.

The 25 Best US Cities to Spend a Weekend

Patrick Kaler serves as the CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara, and he says he's thrilled that Buffalo continues to make consistent appearances on these kinds of lists and rankings.

"I'm really excited about the content that was part of this list," said Kaler. "It really shows the breadth of what we have in Buffalo, from the architecture, some of our neighborhoods...even the experience down at Silo City with the grain elevators, so it's really a good representation of what we have been seeing as part of the whole resurgence."

Kaler, who began his position in 2014, says the shift in attitude from outsiders, especially in the journalism scene, has been stark.

"It's been especially noticeable in being able to bring journalists to Buffalo to write about the destination," he said. "When I first arrived in 2014, it was a challenge. That was a time when we had a lot of the construction going on, but now that we have so many of these new attractions, these new restaurant, travel writers are actually contacting us saying they really want to come and see what's taking place in Buffalo."
