BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Schools Superintendent Kriner Cash defended the district's decision to give pay raises to some of his top staffers.
The district received criticism for the nearly $200,000 in spending in the wake of the New York State Education Department's release of Math and ELA scores that showed little to no growth in results.
"The salary increase was to account for the four years that we've been here," Cash said. "It's not a yearly thing."
Cash said that the school district was on the verge of being in control of New York State five years ago and under fiscal stress during the same time. The superintendent touted achievements like the negotiation of a new teacher's contract and an increased graduation rate.
