BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - With dozens of people reporting illnesses related to vaping, Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein said that many of those illnesses originate from Western New York.
"We've actually seen 13 cases (in Western New York)," Burstein told WBEN. "The New York State Health Department has been able to get some of the vaping devices and juices that have been used by people who suffered from this pulmonary illness. They've been testing them for their contents and what they found that is consistent...is they were all used for cannabis products and all those products had a high level of Vitamin E."
She said the high levels of Vitamin E have caused inflammation, which caused the illnesses including chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, coughing, and other symptoms.
Burstein urges people to stop vaping because there is no data is helps people stop smoking tobacco products.
