GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WBEN) - Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul said to expect news on how Canadians will be forced to pay tolls in Grand Island "very soon".

Since cashless tolling took effect in Grand Island, many people have cried afoul about Canadian drivers because they are not required to pay the tolls when crossing the Grand Island bridges. Drivers and state officials cited Ontario Highway 407 as an example of a double standard, where Americans are forced to pay the tolls.

"It was far more complicated than anyone can imagine dealing with a foreign government," Hochul said. "There's not one point of contact on this. It's the Canadian government, Ontario province, people coming in from Quebec. It's much bigger than we anticipated."

She said Canadians should be required to pay the toll.
