BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation on Wednesday announced that Buffalo-based CJS Architects was chosen to redevelop the concourse of the Central Terminal.

"In the next few months we'll probably be working through analyzing the existing building and really trying to figure out what we need to do," CTRC Vice Chairman Paul Lang told reporters. " Our ultimate goal is to start implementing some of the first steps that were outlined in the ULI study from a year and a half ago. We outlined the reactivation of concourse space, specifically the restaurant and waiting room, as special events centers."

Their plan for the restaurant is to have a permanent caterer or restaurant. Across the concourse is the waiting room which would be converted into an events space.

"Given the size of this building, the quality of materials, the era it was built, a lot of our work will involve trying to determine what kind of restoration is the best way to spend the money," CJS Architects Partner Robert Stark said. "Relative to a facility of this size, $5 million is not a lot of money. However, it is a lot of money relative to what's been devoted so far and we're hoping to do our best to show how that can best be utilized."

Construction on the project could begin this winter, though Lang suggested shovels to be in the ground in the early stages of 2020.
