(WBEN) Recently we have seen this years construction on the Skyway get underway. The outbound bridge is closed and all traffic will be dealt with on the inbound lanes. Second year work on the 290 now underway to replace two bridges between Colvin and Delaware and work has resume on the Thruway between the Lackawanna Tolls and the 400. This, however, is only the beginning with a number of projects slated to start this week.
Construction is getting underway on a $3.4 million highway improvement project that calls for paving and updating traffic signals on Broadway in the City of Buffalo between Oak Street and Fillmore Avenue, and on South Union Road between Main Street in the village of Williamsville and Wehrle Drive in the town of Amherst, Erie County.
Traffic signals at the intersections of Broadway with Pine Street, Herman Street, Jefferson Avenue and Fillmore Avenue will be replaced. They will include flashing yellow arrows during the all-green phase to indicate that left turns are allowed, but not protected from on-coming traffic. These upgraded traffic signals will more safely accommodate motorists making left turns at intersections.
Beginning on Monday, April 1st at approximately 7:00 a.m., Whirlpool Street, between Cleveland Street and Chestnut Street, will be closed to all traffic. Motorists will be directed to follow a posted detour. This closure is expected to last for approximately five weeks.
This work is weather-sensitive and could be delayed in the event of inclement weather.
Then, of course, we have to add in all the highway work being done by the City, county and local Towns and Villages. Happy Motoring!!!
