Dunkirk, N.Y. (WBEN) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a caution flag for Western New York Monday due to an increase in Covid clusters locally.

He cited seasonal labor at farms, a cluster at a steel plant in Erie County, and a food processing factory in Dunkirk.

"In Western NewYork, the number of positive tests has somewhat escalated," said Cuomo. "It is not a cause for serious concern but it is a caution flag and we're looking at it.  We do more testing than any other state, so we can identify clusters," he said.

"We have been proactively working with New York State Department of Health and administration of Fieldbrook Foods to manage and control the spread of the disease. The increased number of positive tests reported this weekend substantiated our concern about a potentially larger outbreak," said Schuyler.

Still, the positivity rate remains low. Wendel said the county's infection rate is a little over one percent. "We may be the worst region, but that's still a pretty good number," he said.
