(WBEN) - After being closed for over five months, gyms and fitness centers across New York State will be able to open at 33% capacity as soon as August 24.
Read the full reopening guidelines here.
The guidelines for reopening puts much of the responsibility for giving the green light on localities, which must inspect and approve a gym's reopening within two weeks of it being open. Local governments will also decide whether or not to allow indoor workout classes.
All people inside the gym must wear masks.
For owners of gyms that have been closed for over five months, the guidance is the fist time they have been able to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
"It was really nice to hear that he wanted to start communicating," said Amy Bueme, Owner of Catalyst Fitness. "All fitness clubs through all of New York state have just been trying to work together to say... please stop ignoring this industry because it's so important to everybody."
Even though the guidance just came, Bueme has been preparing her business for some time.
