Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Thanks to your donations, $40,000 was raised Thursday afternoon to help infantrymen who were with David Bellavia in Fallujah in 2004 to be with him Tuesday in Washington as he receives the Medal of Honor.
Colin Fitts served with Bellavia in Fallujah, and says your donations help on two fronts. "Servicemembers are flying in from all over, including one from New Delhi, and others from Germany. The Army's going to give them the time to go," says Fitts, but notes they'll be paying their own way. Same thing for those who are now civilians. "They understand it's a big deal, but business is business. Not to say anything bad against employers, they're willing to give them the time off, but they're not getting paid for it," explains Fitts.
Fitts himself says he's looking forward to meeting up with Bellavia in person.
Funds left over will go to Veterans Stand Down.
