Erie County: 4,161 cases and 346 have died

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County coronavirus cases continue to increase, though the current state of the pandemic is uncertain in Erie County due to the hospitalization figures.

"We had not received any hospital data from New York State for the last two days worth of data," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said Friday. "We did not receive any data Wednesday night or Thursday night."


Poloncarz said that New York State is upgrading its HRDS data reporting system. Because of that, there has been a lack of reporting of hospitalization figures.

"As soon as we get that information, we'll publicize it," Poloncarz said

As of Thursday, there were 4,161 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county. Poloncarz also announced that 23 more people have died from the disease. The death toll in Erie County is now 346.

Of the total deaths, 55 percent were associated with nursing homes while the remainder are in a private setting.
