Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - As if the storm of Coronavirus concerns weren't enough to navigate, Mother Nature has a curve ball of her own for the Buffalo and Western New York region Friday. Extreme and potentially damaging winds are forecast for the region during the day Friday.
A High Wind Warning is posted for the region Friday with winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts to as high as 60 mph possible at times.
A High Wind Warning (gusts to 60 mph) is in effect for most of Western NY, and a Wind Advisory (gusts to 50 mph) elsewhere. * WHAT...Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph expected.
* WHERE...Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, and Chautauqua counties.
* WHEN...From 10 AM this morning to 5 PM EDT this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down some trees and power lines. Strong winds may damage tents and temporary outdoor structures. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
