TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WBEN) – Marijuana’s pending legalization in New York stands to benefit the state economy in a variety of ways including taxes plus it stands to benefit small businesses with the planned job creation and general business sales.
Even though marijuana itself is not legal, one of its chemical elements, cannabidoil, or CBD, is legal to sell in New York State, and Family Video is one local business that recently began selling CBD as a way to increase its business.
“We had a lot of unique visitors that aren’t our regulars,” Williams added. “They were coming mainly for the CBD as well as attention we get from our outdoor sign that says ‘CBD, if you need it, we got it!’.”
CBD oil does not have THC, the active ingredient that makes someone high. Williams said the products they sale- which includes chap sticks, water bottles, balms, and sprays- have no THC.
He, like many people around New York State, are watching what’s happening with the New York State Legislature and the legalization of recreational marijuana. However, he said their focus is primarily focused on the business.
CBD oil is not at all of the Family Video stores…yet. A Lockport location also sells CBD oil.
“The brand we carry is called Natural Native,” Williams said. “The reason we chose them is because not only do they do third party testing…someone else is doing it for them as part of Oklahoma State law.”
For anyone worried about failing a drug test with CBD oils sold at the stores, Williams assured there is no THC in the oils they sell with their partnership with Natural Native.
