NIAGARA COUNTY, N.Y. (WBEN) - One more person has died in Niagara County, bringing the total number of people who have died due to coronavirus at five.

The person who died was a 66-year-old man who had an underlying health condition, according to a release by county officials on Monday morning.

"These aren't easy for any of us to deal with and our condolences go out to the family," Niagara County Health Director Stapleton said.

Niagara County is now reporting 205 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 11 since their last report on Saturday.

Twenty people remain in the hospital. There are 67 people who have recovered from coronavirus.

Stapleton said testing remains a challenge. The county ordered 1,500 testing kits weeks ago but has only received about 100. Stapleton said those 100 are dedicated to those who need it most, such as health care workers, first responders, and women who are pregnant.

"We've been fortunate that we haven't had a lot of positives from our first responders and health care workers," Stapleton said.

Stapleton said nursing homes are not under regulations of local government and that they are regulated by New York State. However, he said Niagara County is working with nursing homes to supply personal protective equipment.
