POMFRET, N.Y. (WBEN) - A seven-year-old girl has died after a three-car accident on Monday afternoon in Chautauqua County.

New York State Police said Emmaline A. Wilcox died a Brooks Memorial Hospital after a crash on State Route 60 in Pomfret.

Police said that a 2009 Hyundai was traveling north on the road when it rear-ended at 2016 Kia that was stopped in the northbound lane waiting to turn left in the parking lot. The rear-end collision forced the Kia into the southbound lane, where it was then struck by a tractor-trailer.

The 35-year-old driver of the Kia was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Wilcox was a first grade student at Sinclairville Elementary School.

The Cassadaga Valley School District released the following statement:

Just prior to 5:00 PM last evening (Monday, February 24) there was a motor vehicle accident on Route 60 that resulted in a fatality. The child that passed away in this accident is a first grade student at Sinclairville Elementary School.

While we are not at liberty to release the name of this child at this time, it is important to understand that our Crisis Intervention Team has met to prepare to support our students and staff when they arrive to school this morning, and counselors will be available throughout the next few days.

Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the family and all those impacted by this tragedy at this difficult time.
