Five hour standoff ends peacefully in West Seneca

West Seneca, N.Y. (WBEN) An armed standoff in West Seneca early Monday morning. It took approximately five hours to bring it to a peaceful conclusion.

Shortly before 3 a.m., a woman called West Seneca police, saying that her 25-year-old boyfriend was walking around the house on Seneca St. with a large butcher knife. According to authorities, the woman said he was threatening to harm police.

The woman told police that she locked herself and her two-year-old child in the bathroom for safety.

First responders got to the scene and rescued the woman and her child from the building through a second-story bathroom window.

Police attempted to deploy a taser, but it was unsuccessful. Officers, including members of the Crisis Intervention Team, spent more than five hours talking with the man and verbally de-escalating the situation.

At approximately 8:35am,  the man put the knife down, walked out of the house and calmly surrendered to police.

There were no injuries.

The unidentified man was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
