BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Some of the common traditions on Valentine's Day includes flowers, a card, and especially a nice date at a local restaurant.

But are you looking to woo your significant other this year by getting a tattoo? You should probably think twice.

"Some tattoos can be very meaningful, especially when you're doing it for a loved one, but there's some things to stay away from as well if you're going to get a tattoo on Valentine's Day for a loved one," Marc Lavey, a tattoo artist at Cowpok in Buffalo, told WBEN. "I highly recommend staying away from names or stuff like that. Using imagery to represent your loved one is usually a better option."

A Valentine's Day tattoo is actually pretty common, according to Lavey. He said that some area parlors (not Cowpok) use flash sales, where a certain piece of art like a heart can be inked on you at a discount site.

Despite his advice of not getting a name on your body, many still do the opposite.

"It's one of the most common ones we do, honestly," he said. "Next to covering up names, of course"

Names are usually written in black ink and those cover-ups would need to also be in black ink.

In short, Lavey said don't get a name.
