(WBEN) - Google continues to issue "Community Mobility Reports" that shed light on the changes that have happened in the behavior of Western New Yorkers during the pandemic to stop the spread of Coronavirus.
The most recent data released by Google shows a continued decrease in foot traffic at workplaces, retail stores, and even grocers.
Google's COVID-19 Community Mobility Reports use tracking from apps like Google Maps to see how movement has changed to observe social distancing.
In Erie County, travel to retail businesses was down 60% compared to where it usually stands and workplaces and offices saw a decrease of 35% on April 26.
In both Erie and Niagara counties, it appears that there was an uptick in grocery shopping around Easter, but people may have stocked up on food as traffic to grocery stores plummeted in the days after.
Parks have seen an enormous increase in traffic on days with warm temperatures and clear skies.
The site, which is updated periodically, shows trends in traffic to retail stores, grocery stores, parks, workplaces and more. The reports show how visits and length of stay at different places change compared to a baseline using the same data used to show popular times for places in Google Maps.
