BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Close to 200 people have died from coronavirus in Erie County.

According to the latest information from county officials, 198 people have died and 2,738 people in total have been diagnosed with the disease.

Hospitalizations remain one of the primary statistics that are examined by Erie County to determine where the region is on the coronavirus "curve". Hospitalizations continue to decrease according to the latest information. As of Wednesday, 221 people were hospitalized with 112 people in the ICU and 84 people requiring a ventilator.

"This is the fewest number of ICU airway assists and intubations in Erie County hospitals since April 2," Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said. "That's a very good sign and a good sign that we're seeing stabilization in ICU numbers and a drop in hospitalization."

Twice as many people were discharged from the hospital than admitted.
