Buffalo, NY (WBEN) When winter storm warnings get posted, many children, like generations before, are glued to find out if their school will be closed. Superintendents say there are ways to determine if a snow day happens, but the decision isn't just made by them.
At West Seneca West, principal John Brinker says the district has three factors in determining whether to open school. "Our superintendent works closely with the chief of police and the department of transportation in West Seneca. If things are a go and it's safe to move, we have school," says Brinker, who says he gets a lot of questions from students. "They'll see me in the hallway, and they'll pepper me with questions, and I'll respond, did you get here today? Maybe late, but you're safe, and that's why you're here."
