Lancaster, N.Y. (WBEN) - Some heightened alert in the Town of Lancaster after a resident called-in a black bear sighting in the town.
Lancaster Police are aware of the sighting and, as a precaution, the Heritage Trail will be temporarily closed between Cemetery Road and Pavement Road. The sighting was called in by a resident in the area of Pavement Rd and Nichter Road and was verified by Patrol who located tracks in the area. The Town of Lancaster Recreation Department will be placing barricades at Pavement and Cemetery roads. The DEC has also been advised of the sighting.
Please stay off the Heritage Trail in this area until further notice. These sightings do occasionally happen in our area and our Officers track the Bear as it passes through. If you see the bear, do not approach it and call the Lancaster Police Department at 683-2800.
