BUFFALO (WBEN) - Some nasty weather rolled into Western New York on Wednesday afternoon, just in time for the afternoon commute. Several people called into the Bauerle & Bellavia show to share their not-so-wonderful experiences, and it was the Skyway, in particular, that gave people a tough time.
"Hey Tom, I am stuck on the Skyway, and I've been sitting here for about 30 minutes now," said one caller named Kristy. "We're moving zero miles per hour, and like you said, thank God I have 3/4 tank of gas...I'm looking left, I'm looking right, I just see white; I can't see a thing."
Here's the afternoon commute as told by Twitter:
BREAKING: The Skyway has been closed in both directions due to a multi vehicle accident. Motorists should use alternative routes.
— Buffalo Police Dept (@BPDAlerts) February 13, 2019[AMHERST POLICE, NY> -- 4-wheel drive vehicles are great for winter weather, but you still have to remember to drive safely and for road conditions. We see just many 4-wheel drive vehicles slide off the road as other vehicles. #drivererror #slowdownPhoto: Officer Martinez. pic.twitter.com/Dbizn4G5uh

— WBEN NewsRadio 930AM (@NewsRadio930) February 13, 2019Another caller, Kelly, shared the story of her commute, and even though she wasn't on the Skyway, other areas were hit pretty heavy as well.
"I left River Road and Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda at roughly 3:55 p.m.," she began. "It was clear, and I was able to do the speed limit on the 290-East, got up to Main Street and it crawled down to about five miles-per-hour, and it did a dead stop just before Main Street."
Even local meteorologist Andy Parker called in to talk.
"We were talking about these winds - 50 miles-per-hour - with the snow, that's exactly what's happening out there; when you put those two things together, and it becomes a pretty ugly day," said Parker. "There's two very narrow ribbons of snow right now, and they're both impacting some high density areas."
He said Downtown Buffalo received much of the nasty weather.
"To give you an idea of how fast this thing was whipping around, it traveled from Sturgeon Point to Downtown Buffalo in about ten minutes, and if you've ever made that drive, it takes you about a solid 30 to drive out there," he said. "
"I drive for a living, and I've done it professionally for five years, and I'm in 4-wheel drive," he said. "It's bad out here. Listen, I'm kind of nervous because it's bad, and that speaks volumes."
