Lewiston, NY (WBEN) Lewiston Police say they've received reports of fliers being distributed KKK representatives would attend Peach Fest this weekend. Police are assuring you it will be safe to attend.

"Our investigation up to this point does not lead us to believe this is from the KKK, there is no rally or meeting type planned," says Lewiston Police Chief Frank Previte, who believes a local person is behind the fliers. "It's blown up over social media, but we don't believe anyone based on our investigation will be there from the KKK."

Previte says police and organizers already have a police plan in place, and notes there are going to be minor adjustments depending on information he receives.

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston says it's been made aware of the situation.

"People need not worry about their safety more than any other year," assures Previte. He does warn those who have made threats on social media to this and will head to Peach Fest with weapons. "People have to be careful into not crossing that line, and possibly putting themselves in a position to be arrested," wanrs Previte.

He adds the fliers did not make any threats, and did not violate any laws.
