Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - When Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced his reelection campaign earlier this month, he said he didn't know who his opponent would be but he knew what they would stand for. Now he will know both.
As WBEN has been reporting for weeks, Independent Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon has announced her candidacy to challenge the two-term incumbent Poloncarz in a campaign video released today.
WBEN political contributor Carl Calabrese also says Dixon's ability to win in her Democratic-heavy district is a plus. "She is in the most Democrat enrolled district outside of the city of Buffalo, and she's managed to win the district on the Republican line several times, but win it by landslide margins," says Calabrese.
Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Joe Lorigo is a big fan of Dixon's candidacy, saying, "Lynne is not someone that's concerned about what's going on in Washington DC or what's going on in Albany, she's concerned about what's going on in Erie County".
