BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - A deceased former gym teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas Schools has been accused of sexually molesting a student in the 1960's.
Robert "Ollie" Weber was accused by Jack Maloney, who told reporters on Thursday that he was abused in Weber's office at the school. Weber was accused of touching Maloney while being measured for his uniform.
"As a little kid you just freeze or flee," Maloney said. "I was horrified. I was terrified so I stood there until he was done and he let me go back out and play dodgeball. Gym became a torment. It had been my favorite thing and it became my least favorite thing."
At some point, Weber was transferred to St. Ambrose Weber died in 1998.
Maloney was concerned that his younger brother would have also been molested by Weber. Once his parents heard about the abuse, he claims they complained to the church and to Father William Dickerson.
"Within a couple of days (of the investigation) my parents said 'Don't worry, he won't be there anymore. You did nothing wrong.'," Maloney said. "That was it. The damage was pretty much done. My parents then met with Father Dickerson and wanted to pursue legal action. He basically talked them out of it."
He said that when he went to the Diocese of Buffalo in the 2000's, they declined to give him money to offset the costs of counseling but they could offer their own counseling.
After Maloney came forward with his claims of abuse by Weber, a second victim came forward claiming he was also abused by Weber in 1961. Maloney also said there were as many as 100 other victims.
