Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Nate McMurray admits he was caught off guard when he learned Chris Jacobs was being sworn into Congress Tuesday. But he says he is preparing for another showdown in November.
"I think it's unfortunate he snuck in without giving us notification he was being sworn in. Some counties haven't certified the votes yet, but with all the confusion of the special election, he's able to do this under some type of techniciality," believes McMurray. "This is a guy who's been trying to claim victory since election night in a landslide, but he won by five percent when he should have won by 40 percent. They're trying to kick the door down, but they're really sneaking in, slithering in."
McMurray says with a general election coming up, he believes Jacobs should be nervous. "We're getting more confident by the day, we're going to keep fighting," says McMurray. "If you look at this district, which is clearly purple, and could soon be blue, and you saw Jacobs with all he did to hide behind President Trump, and that drags him across the finish line. If you're a betting man and you look at this with 150,000 more voters, and we only have to close the gap by five percentage points, I feel very confident about November."
One thing McMurray says he'll have to do is spend more money. "He tried to buy the election like you try to buy a bar of soap," claims McMurray. "We're going to have to spend some more money, we're going to have to get on TV sooner." But McMurray admits he won't have the war chest Jacobs will have. "We can't lie. President Trump said I negotiatied trade deals. What deals did I make? It's just the open lying, we have to fight back against that," notes McMurray.
