BUFFALO (WBEN - Brendan Keany) - The Sabres made the big move the night before the NHL's trade deadline, but they were still active on deadline day.
General Manager Jason Botterill spoke to the media on Monday about the trade.
"We have young players in the National Hockey League right now, and we want to try to support them as much as possible," said Botterill. "We felt that this was a move that helps our group right now but also is someone who can grow, someone who can develop into a better NHL player."
Botterill also noted that Montour fits perfectly into the kind of system the Sabres are looking to implement.
"When this situation came along with Brandon, a player that we felt fit into our mix from an age standpoint, a right-handed shot defenseman, a player that wants to play the style that we want to get to, we felt this was this was something that really added value to our team, hopefully improve our ability to get out of our own zone, get the pucks up to our forwards and help our defense create some offense from the back end," he said.
