Derby, NY (WBEN) While New Era workers in Derby will soon lose their jobs as the plant closes, they are getting support from people who wear their caps as part of their uniform.

The Major League Baseball Players Association issued a statement Thursday morning showing their gratitude to New Era workers.

"The MLBPA urges New Era to reconsider its decision, which will cause economic harm not just to the dedicated workers who manufacture the caps and to their families, but also to the town of Derby, which has supported the company for nearly 60 years," the players union says in a statement.

A severance deal was reached Feb. 12 between CWA and New Era to close the plant in March. More than 200 people will be out of work.
