Sgt. Nicholas Vogler

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) A member of the 914th Air Refueling Wing has died during training in Texas.

The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station says Hamburg native, Tech. Sgt. Nicholas A. Vogler, an assistant flight chief of the 914th Security Forces Squadron at NFARS, died Sunday while attending a training course at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. The cause of death is still under investigation. The cause of death was not training related and Vogler did not present with any COVID-19 symptoms and therefore COVID-19 is not thought to be a factor in his death.

Vogler was two weeks into a four-week basic instructor's course at JBSA-Lackland which would certify him to formally train other 914 SFS members. He's served at NFARS for over a decade. He also served a deployment to Afghanistan in 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and was also deployed to Kuwait in 2016 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

"This is incredibly difficult for the 914th Air Refueling Wing family as we mourn the death of one of one of our own," said Col. Mark Larson, 914 ARW commander. "Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tech. Sgt. Vogler."
