Albany, NY (WBEN) At his daily coronavirus briefing Sunday, NY Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he is entering into an agreement with six other regional governors to form a consotium to purchase PPE and other medical supplies. According tot he governor's office, the states will continue to partner with the federal government but they will also work together to identify the entire region's needs for these products, aggregate demand among the states, reduce costs and stabilize the supply chain. The states will also coordinate policies regarding the inventory of PPE each state's health care infrastructure should have to be prepared for a possible second wave of the virus.
The multi-state consortium will consist of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The governors of these states will work to develop a regional supply chain for personal protective equipment, other medical equipment and testing.
Governor Cuomo also noted that he is ordering all hospitals state-wide to have a 90-day supply of PPE on hand at all times.
The governor also noted that residents of the state have a "social responsibilty" to wear a mask and maintain social distance when out in public.
