East Aurora, N.Y. (WBEN) - Lynn Kinsella watched the Academy Awards Sunday night, from beginning to end. The owner of the Aurora Theatre in East Aurora was not surprised that the South Korean film "Parasite" was the big winner. She has felt the momentum moving in that direction.
"The stars were aligned for them last night," said Kinsella. "The whole industry is changing. There are different platforms by which movies are being made and seen. The door has been opened and I think the Academy is changing," she said.
"Parasite" won Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Film along with Best Original Screenplay.
Americans must view it with subtitles.
The movie came out in 2019 on different streaming platforms; Google Play, Vudu, Amazon Prime and on-demand.
But now that it's the coveted Oscar winner, many theaters are giving it a second look. "This movie has been around," said Kinsella. "But I think there's going to be a resurgence in people wanting to see it." She said it's an engaging story and most people won't even realize that they're reading subtitles.
”Parasite” follows four members of a lower class family who comically scheme their way into infiltrating an ultra-wealthy household in Seoul. The story takes several surprising, and dark, twists along the way.
