Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Rochester man pleads guilty to shooting his mother's ex-husband after a basketball game in West Seneca back in 2017.
41- year-old Andre Lewis took a manslaughter plea in the shooting death of 54- year-old Robert Echols in April 2017. During an argument in the lobby, Echols punched Lewis in the face while Lewis was holding his 14-month-old daughter. Lewis then pulled out his licensed pistol and shot Echols as he was falling to the ground. As Echols tried to get up, Lewis shot him a second time. Echols later died from his injuries.
Lewis was indicted on one count of Murder in the Second Degree for the alleged crime. The case was prosecuted twice by jury trial in 2018, and both trials ended in a hung jury. Jury selection for Lewis' third trial was set to begin this morning.
Erie County DA John Flynn says after speaking to the victim's family, the family agreed to the plea to provide legal closure.
Lewis will serve five years in prison when sentenced on June 6th.
