Schools, Businesses Concerned Over NYPAUSE Extension

NYPAUSE Extended

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's extension of the NYPAUSE until May 15th has thousands of businesses across the state again adjusting their business plans and operations and has the leaders of school districts staewide wondering if another extension is even feasible.

On the business size of the puzzle, NYPAUSE has hampered restaurants, in particular.

Oliver's, owned by David Schutte of Schutte Hospitality, finds himself making further adjustments with word of the extension.

Schutte says it's a win as he can pay key bills and the wages and health insurance of the key employees still on board. "We're prepared to take it to July 1. Pretty much, it's unknown. The Payment Protection Program will keep us afloat for awhile, but you can only defer your bills for so long and that's the challenge," says Schutte.

AJ Baynes of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce says business owners want to do their part to keep everyone safe, "but the challenge for every single business is what is my business going to look like when it's all over, and if they can't go to work and have the employees come to work making sales and interacting, it will be a much more challenging environment to walk into."
