Shark Girl at Canalside on May 16, 2018 (WBEN Photo/Mike Baggerman)

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Shark Girl is headed for a Winter makeover.

One of the star attractions at Canalside is leaving her perch October 9th, according to the Albright Knox Art Gallery.

The girl in the blue dress, who made a big splash when she arrived in 2014, is in need of "conservation work" and will be returning sometime in early 2020.

The public art initiative is maintained by the Albright Knox.  Earlier this year it was estimated that Shark Girl needed close to $50,000 in repairs and maintenance. That cost would include removal, repair and reinstallation.

The project is likely to take 8 to 10 weeks.

------ Starting October 9, "Shark Girl" will be temporarily off view for conservation work. Keep following us here for updates on her return in early 2020. https://t.co/BAVUPHACjg pic.twitter.com/pUpU80clG4

Shark Girl has been photographed thousands of times and is maintained regularly due to wear and tear from the elements.
