BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Expect some bars in the area to be very busy on Wednesday night and even on Thanksgiving.
The day before Thanksgiving has always historically been a big night for local bars. With families and friends reunited for the holiday, many choose to enjoy the night out before the dinner on Thursday.
"It's absolutely one of the biggest party nights of the year," JP Fitzgerald's General Manager Carl Decovnick told WBEN. "From the college kids to parents that have the day off…they're not worried about the next day being too much more than a laying around and football Thanksgiving."
Bar manager Chris Toporczyk said that once they open their doors on Wednesday, they expect it to be busy in the popular Hamburg sports bar.
"Once the doors open, the floodgates open and people keep on coming in and coming in," Toporczyk said. "It's really fun."
While many businesses opt to close their doors on Thanksgiving to spend time with loved ones, that's not the case with bars like JP Fitzgerald's. Traditionally, they open up at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving instead of 11 a.m. like they do on other days.
