BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The NFTA's Metro Rail will see infrastructure improvements over the next five years ranging from track replacement and video surveillance upgrades, to improvements in escalators and ventilation.

"LaSalle Station and the rest of the metro rail have been showing its age," State Senator and Transportation Committee Chairman Tim Kennedy said at a press conference at the aforementioned station in Buffalo. "This station was first opened over 30 years ago in the mid-1980's. Since then, there hasn't been a lot of work done and there hasn't been a dedicated stream of state funding for the system's capital needs, forcing the NFTA to spread their dollars even thinner."
