Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The driver of the SUV that struck three law enforcement officers on Bailey Avenue as part of a protest outside the Buffalo Police E District station has been charged.
New York State Police say 30-year-old Deyanna J. Davis has been charged with Aggravated Assault upon a Police Officer (B Felony), Assault 2nd degree (D Felony) (2 counts), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (C Felony) and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree (E Felony).
Erie County DA John Flynn says 25-year-old Semaj T. Pigram of Buffalo and 28-year-old Walter B. Stewart, Jr. of Buffalo were in the 2002 Ford Explorer on Bailey Avenue that did not stop for the blockade of law enforcement. Flynn says investigators recovered a loaded handgun from inside the vehicle. The weapon was reported stolen from West Seneca in January 2020. Two state troopers and a Buffalo Police officer were hit.
Pigram and Stewart are scheduled to return on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing.
A judge set bail at $100,000 for Pigram. Bail was set at $175,000 for Stewart who was wanted on warrants in unrelated, pending felony cases.
If convicted on all charges, both face a maximum of 15 years in prison.
The female driver of the vehicle remains hospitalized at ECMC. The driver was shot in the abdomen. Flynn says shell casings not consistent with police weapons were found 80 yards before the blockade on Bailey Avenue. That remains under investigation.
