BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Multiple buildings on Main Street in Downtown Buffalo were evacuated because of a gas leak on Friday morning.
The gas leak started around 10:15 a.m. when private contractors for National Fuel ruptured a gas line along Swan Street during routine maintenance work. Buffalo Fire Chief Daniel Bossi said the gas line went into the building at 290 Main Street and the smell of gas permeated the building for more than an hour.

April 26, 2019 "It wasn't a major leak but it was enough that it prompted an evacuation," Bossi said. "Levels were going up inside the building (enough) that it caused a concern."
National Fuel said the situation is under control.
