BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The region's largest university is holding a 'virtual toast' Wednesday afternoon in honor of the class of 2020.

The University at Buffalo will be hosting more than a dozen online graduations this Friday through Sunday.

Over six thousand students will be receiving degrees and certificates.

UB President Satish K. Tripathi said, “Although we have never celebrated our graduates in this manner, the essence of our commencement tradition remains fundamentally unchanged, thanks to our Class of 2020’s steadfast commitment to uphold UB’s mission and vision of excellence.” Virtual commencements have become the norm this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The graduates will be recognized at a later date with an on-campus commencement. Many other local colleges and universities are planning to do the same.
