Orchard Park, NY (WBEN) As those who work at essential businesses do their parts, including us in our newsroom, hunger or thirst eventually kicks in.
Enter another essential business, vending machines, to help fill the need.
Getting there isn't overly challenging, "but there are more precautions going on. Masks and gloves are worn, extra cleaning procedures are being done, and the facility on their end takes our temperature as we enter the building and make sure proper precautions are being done." Corto notes that has been seamless, and workers at the facilities are grateful. "They have very limited options and the fact we're still out there supporting them although we're scaled back from 25 to four people. We're still able to accommodate those businesses that are open," adds Corto.
Corto says the business is diversifying by selling snack boxes to homes. "It's for people with young kids at home, and the variety we can offer, 12 to 15 different snacks, seems to be a great fit for moms looking for something for the kids at home," says Corto. "It could also be for the person who wants to stay safe and not share that big bag and worry about other people's hands in those bags, and they can have that right to their door."
Recently, Buffalo Strive teamed up with the Thurman Thomas Foundation to help seniors. "We just launched Strive for Seniors, and we delivered that last Friday, donating 42,000 snacks and drinks to senior citizens," says Corto, himself a former Buffalo Bill. "These people can't have visitors at all. At least we can go outside their house. These folks are in lockdown, and we felt (delivering snacks) was an awesome thing."
