Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Who needs a thrill ride when just living through Western New York weather is daring enough.  After Winter Storm Harper brought a foot of snow to the region, followed by bone-chilling cold, Mother Nature has another episode for us in the form of moderating temperatures and rain.

And the ride doesn't end there.  Yes.  Arctic air is just around the bend.

"A brief surge of warmer air at midweek will be accompanied by a storm that brings drenching rain", says AccuWeather Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.  The rain, combined with snow melt, could cause problems with drainage along area highways Wednesday.

A winter weather advisory is up for the region starting at 2am overnight, through 2pm Wednesday.

In advance of the warmer air later Wednesday, meteorologists are cocnerned about a period of time early in the day Wednesday when mixed precipitation, freezing rain and black ice could be problematic.

Accuweather meteorologists say arctic air is forecast to retreat rather quickly at midlevels of the atmosphere during Tuesday night and Wednesday. However, near the ground, frigid conditions into Tuesday night, as well as snow and ice cover in many areas, will allow some surfaces to remain cold into part of Wednesday.

A brief warm up and rain will follow as warm air is likely to win the battle as the day progresses on Wednesday. Temperatures are forecast to climb into the 30s and 40s across the Northeast.
