Telemedicine On the Rise During Coronavirus Crisis

Use of telemedicine is soaring in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.  According to a review of claims data by Univera Healthcare, an estimated 470,000 New Yorkers used telehealth benefits in the first three months of 2020.  As a comparison; Univera notes it and its Rochester-based parent logged nearly 40,000 telemedicine visits between January 1 and April 3rd.  For all of 2019, they had a total of 23,767 telemedicine visits.  Univera has expanded telehealth coverage to all members and waived any member cost-share responsibility for telemedicine services.
