Hamburg Gaming celebrates the opening of a $2 million gaming veranda as an extension of its gaming floor this morning. The facility has increased the number of video lottery terminal gaming machines at its Erie County Fairgrounds site.
The National Cancer Institute has renewed the status of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as one of 50 elite Comprehensive Cancer Centers. The NCI also awarding a $22.5 million Cancer Center Support Grant to Roswell to fund core research and education programs.

Upstate New York adults who have diabetes are better at managing their disease than they were just a few years ago, according to a review of self-reported patient data by Univera Healthcare. They're measuring their blood sugar daily, having an A1C blood test twice yearly, scheduling annual foot exams, getting regular exercise, taking diabetes management classes, seeing health professionals specifically for their diabetes, and even getting an annual flu shot. The only recommendation that is on the decline is for adults with diabetes to have an annual dilated eye exam - which is important because diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness.
